Privacy Policy
Effective 30 September 2026. This draft is for review before launch. FakeDesktops is a novelty site for sharing desktop screenshots. Contact: hello@fakedesktops.com (the address shown here is updated from site settings when JavaScript is available).
What we collect
- Uploaded images and their metadata: operating system, tags, description, keywords, and image dimensions.
- Your screen dimensions and pixel ratio, detected in the browser at upload.
- An optional email address, only if you ask to be told when the desktop is approved. It is used for that one notification, then deleted after sending, on rejection, or after 30 days if it is still pending. It is never shared, never sold, and never used for marketing.
- A salted one-way hash of your IP address for abuse and rate limiting. It is not reversible to your IP. We do not store the raw IP.
- A random identifier in your browser storage so the same browser cannot upvote or report the same desktop twice.
- Aggregated view counts.
Re-encoding strips EXIF and GPS data from images.
We do not sell or share user data
We do not sell or share user data with third parties. Processors that necessarily handle data to run the service are Cloudflare (hosting, CDN, and Turnstile bot protection), the email provider if you give an email, and — only when ads are enabled — Google (AdSense), which may use cookies or identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you consent.

Public images and removal
Approved images are public. Ask for removal with the report button on the desktop page or by emailing the contact address above.
Retention
- Pending notification emails: deleted when the notice is sent, on rejection, or after 30 days.
- Rejected upload metadata: kept about 90 days for duplicate detection, then deleted.
- Approved images: kept while they remain published.
Your rights
You can ask for access or deletion of personal data we hold. This wording is meant to be friendly to the GDPR, UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act, and the CCPA/CPRA. Email the contact address. We will respond to a verified request.
Children
FakeDesktops is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA.
Changes
We will update the effective date on this page when the policy changes.
